I am a guest teacher with Region 9 Public School district in Connecticut. My specialty is Language Arts/Media Arts. I hold a current Connecticut Teacher License PreK-8. I offer the versatility and skills that come from a substantial background in teaching, educational programming, interviewing and writing for press and broadcast media. Enjoying some popularity as an on-camera local TV personality, I am an accomplished and respected director and producer. My subjects are usually educational in nature, but also include news, community access and call-in shows. A skilled interviewer, I have covered a wide range of issues and worked with many internationally-known figures. I am reportedly America's longest running public access/community access producer-host, which I received a Golden Award for in spring 2005 at Comcast Cablevision in Danbury, Connecticut. And, I have written a TV Production Curriculum Overview for public school. Currently, I am engaged in two exclusive national medical projects (How To Prevent A Heart Attack:Cardio/Wrestling & MMA & Healthy Heart For All Ages) to determine how to strengthen heart muscles and live a healthy life. I won a bronze medal (2005) and silver medal (2006) as a freestyle wrestler during USA Wrestling Federation of Connecticut tournaments. And, I won two silver medals during North American Grappling Association tournaments in 2007.

CAREER OVERVIEW

Since 1970 I have been involved in most aspects of press writing, radio and cable television production. I began as a News Reporter in the field for the Mutual Broadcasting System, via Radio WINE AM/FM progressing in 1974 to Radio WLAD AM/FM as a Radio News Writer, while also serving as a Reporter for Connecticut's Bridgeport Sunday Post, Citizen News, and Newtown Bee.

In 1978 I became the Executive Director, Producer and Anchor of the locally popular Channel 6 News Update, which developed into Connecticut News Talk and now USA TV Talk Live. This immensely popular cable TV program, with a viewing area and membership that includes a large area of Connecticut, is owned by the Comcast and Charter Cablevision companies.

From 1972 until my early retirement in 2000 in order to satisfy a lifelong ambition, I was a Teacher, with a fine record of achievement in a Connecticut city public school district, where I received a twenty year gold medal for outstanding teaching from the superintendent. I resigned to play a more major role in Telecommunications, the Broadcast media, Public Relations, News Reporting or Publishing. My dedication will be apparent, for I devote thousands of hours to the pursuit of these activities, developing my many skills in them, although I am incorporating my media skills within a public school district.During my tenure as a public school teacher, I produced and directed a variety of education programs on cable TV for my district.

ACHIEVEMENTS AT COMCAST CABLEVISION

q   My cable TV program USA TV Talk Live with Al Bruhn has become a liaison between the local school systems and the area communities. As an example, the special Ridgefield High School Tiger TV22 program, entitled "Strictly Speaking Ridgefield" became accepted as the medium for airing school and town issues.

q   Under my guidance of its technical staff, USA TV Talk Live has improved its program acceptability to become one of the finest community access programs in the State.

q   I have a reputation for successfully presenting the most difficult and sensitive news stories to the public, by going to the heart of a subject, analyzing the facts and dealing with them honestly.

q   My cable program enjoys such popularity that a single live call-in show about a proposed Fiscal Budget for Ridgefield was approved at a referendum the following day, as a result of demands from our program's listeners in the community.

q   The support we have enjoyed has led to expansion of news coverage from a 30- to a 60-minute format, helping to meet the needs of the viewing audience in Western and Central Connecticut.

q   Although the bulk of cable programs are recorded, I have produced major sports events on location, including Western Connecticut wrestling tournaments and Red Cross swim meets.

q   Concerned about my community, I have prepared several book outlines for completion in the near future, among them with two noted published authors "How To Protect Your Child In School" which will help parents.

q   As Danbury's first Public Access weekly news anchor, I used my teaching experience to provide a beneficial, highly popular community service on Teleprompter Channel 6. My interviewing style has won much praise for its effective - but non-invasive character.

These are examples of my versatility and sense of what captures the interest of the general public at all levels. They are coupled with an in-depth technical knowledge of all the communications media. My years of experience in these specialized functions are substantially augmented and enriched by the earlier experience as a public school teacher. It was in this demanding environment that I developed my ability to communicate complex issues in the easily-understood terms required by popular media. One of my career goals is to complete a doctorate program in education.
