POLICE: Grenade device found at Ridgefield
Lakes; bomb squad called
Apr 20, 2006
Police are investigating the appearance of an extremely
dangerous military hand grenade simulator that was found by a Lake
Road man on Tuesday, April 18, at around 7 p.m.
We received a
report of a suspicious device around 7 last night, Police Captain
Stephen Brown said yesterday. A resident in the area found what he
thought to be an explosive device on his property.
Officers
examined the device from a safe distance, and as a precaution called
the Connecticut state bomb squad. A state trooper from the bomb
squad arrived and secured the device. It turned out to be a military
hand grenade simulator device. The trooper secured it and took the
device for destruction. The trooper stated the device was extremely
dangerous. The case is under investigation.
First Selectman Rudy
Marconi said he was told that the Lake Road man had found the device
at the bottom of his driveway.
Fire Marshal David Lathrop said
yesterday that he had no information on the case beyond that the
state police had sent a bomb team member to assist. He said a memo
had been circulated around the fire department yesterday, Wednesday,
April 19, alerting fire department members that the fire marshal
should be notified in such cases.
