...Freedom of Speech:Satire is no laughing matter at WHS...

(Weston, Connecticut)...A funny thing didn't happen on the way to the forum. That's the way it goes here in town where at the high school, student journalist and activist Zak Moore has run into opposition with regards to his satire newspaper and its unaccepting values by school officials. Yet, Zak Morre, who appeared on USA TV Talk Live with Al Bruhn on Comcast Channel 23 January 25, 2005, told viewers about satire and the trials and tribulations of getting his prose accepted by top educators at Weston High School. Yet, despite WHS teacher support of The Potato, a satire on any number of political and social issues of the day, Zak Moore continues to plug away at the inner consciouness of mankind and how it deals with issues of the day. Westonites can watch the program on their local government access channel 79 Friday, February 4 at 8pm, and Saturday, February 5 at 4pm and 9pm. This program is scheduled for broadcast on cable TV stations in Connecticut. "There are academic problems with administration and that needs to be addressed by the public-at-large," Al Bruhn said. Al Bruhn is a distinguished guest teacher and noted cable TV talkshow producer-host as published in News-Times and Ridgefield Press repectively during 2003-2004 school year. The Weston Forum published an article on Zak Morre in its February 3, 2005 edition. Video clip of Zak Moore on USA TV Talk Live with Al Bruhn will be made available here soon.

Here is Zak Moore's reaction to the program.

My Reaction: After watching the show by myself and after careful reflection, I still think that it went very well. I definitely accomplished my primary objective which was to get The Potato much needed publicity especially when David takes over next year. I am very pleased that the Forum will be covering the show/publication and that the show will broadcast on the Weston town channel as well as cablevision later on. The one downside to my was that I feel I let the administration off too easily. At the time, I was thinking more towards getting the show on the educational access channel and trying to get the positive part of The Potato, the actual publication, out in the open. In retrospect, I probably should have denounced the administration's negative role of opposition in the paper, but it was more important that I get across the positive than the negative.

...Al Bruhn and Zak Moore dined at The Georgetown Saloon August 18, 2005 and had a great diner conversation about life. Zak Moore will attend Dartmouth College and plans to study legal affairs and become an attorney someday. Zak and Al plan to stay in contact as mutual friends. Zak graduated from WHS June 2005.
