Jun 15, 2006

The haul at police headquarters this morning: $50,000 worth of marijuana.

Police found an estimated $50,000 worth of marijuana early this morning in a car which they had stopped for speeding on Route 7.
At approximately 1:15 a.m. on Thursday, June 15, police said they observed a car traveling at a high rate of speed north on Route 7 and crossing the double yellow line. Police said a registration check on the vehicle showed that the cars owner, Rachel Stock, had an arrest warrant from Danbury, and they took her into custody.
Ridgefield K-9 police officer Zeus did an extensive search of Ms. Stocks car, and he indicated on the trunk, police said. When police searched the trunk, they found approximately 10 pounds of marijuana there, with an estimated street value of $50,000.
Police arrested the driver Rachel Stock, 20, and her passenger, Melissa Griffo, 22, on charges of possession of marijuana with the intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of more than four ounces of marijuana. Both women live in Danbury. Police also charged Ms. Stock with several motor vehicle violations.
Bond for both women was set at $10,000. Ms. Griffo posted bond and was released, and Ms. Stock did not post bond and was jailed pending a court date later today.
