(Ridgefield, Connecticut)...Ridgefield Wrestling Team has high school, college and adults practice scholastic, freestyle, collegiate and Greco-Roman wrestling with the Western Connecticut Wrestling Teams at the town recreation site. Free-of-charge instruction is provided for anyone interested in learning amateur wrestling. Head Coach Al Bruhn is credited with the establishment of the wrestling feeder team in the City of Danbury that has helped Danbury High School earn top honors among high school wrestlers today. Scholastic wrestling is no longer just for kids. Adults too participate in amateur wrestling today. What was once reserved for high school students is now open field for all ages as well. And, for good reasons too. Grappling began many centuries ago. And over the years, its application was primarily for school age youngsters. But, kids became adults who continue to have the need to actively engage themselves in one of the most healthy sports of all times, amateur wrestling. Wrestling albeit scholastic, freestyle, collegiate or Greco-Roman demands the physical, mental and spiritual abilities of the wrestler on the mat. Surprisingly, that mat experience can lead to successful daily living as well. Whether it's for cardiovascular reasons, self-defense or to compete as one of the new sports individuals in the new century, The Western Connecticut Wrestling Team. EXCLUSIVE CARDIO/WRESTLING MEDICAL PROJECT ... Two outstanding heavyweight wrestlers one a 23-year old 230lb. plus grappler and tennis star, and the other a 21-year old 285lb. grappler and assistant high school wrestling coach are primary coaches and trainers for Al Bruhn's cardio/wrestling medical project which started January 1, 2005 and is slated to demonstrate that wrestling strengthens the heart muscle in order to live a healthy life. 59 year old 190lb. Al Bruhn, who is a cardiac rehabilitation patient and wrestler, will coordinate training sessions with his two member team and write the book and movie scripts. The book will be a how-to-do book which will demonstrate how to prevent a heart attack through cardio/wrestling exercises and diet plus positive living through imagery psychology with experts Jaqueline Lapa Sussman, M.S., L.P.C. and Dr. Akhter Ahsen , that will be made into a movie script with 23-year old wrestler/tennis pro, 21 year old assistant wrestling coach and Al Bruhn as key players. "The best wrestlers and athletes around have come to me to show a unique way to help my project, and I am indebted to them for it," Bruhn added. Blue Cross Insurance officials, Danbury Hospital Cardiology Chief Dr. Copen, Danbury Primary Care physician Dr. Yacono and Danbury Hospital Cardiac Rehabilitation Center will be monitoring Al Bruhn's cardio/wrestling project. Al Bruhn had an annual physical on December 2, 2004 and passed with flying colors. In the meantime, Al Bruhn had a preliminary wrestling session December 19 at his home gym with two outstanding heavyweight wrestlers one a 23-year old 230lb. plus grappler and tennis star, and the other a 21-year old 285lb. grappler and a ssistant high school wrestling coach. The distinguished wrestlers began their cardio exercising/weightlifting/wrestling sessions with Al Bruhn January 4. And, they will coordinate their sessions with one another to significantly improve Al Bruhn's wrestling abilities and successful performance on the mat. They too will be competing with Al Bruhn during tournaments in 2005. In fact, one of the wrestlers is a chef who said he'll get Al to like fish as he prepared a special seafood entree including red snapper with him January 4 in Bruhn's home. Red snapper tastes like chicken according to the wrestler chef. And, surprisingly, Al agreed. Dr. Copen's diet for Al is strictly fruits, veggies, white meat, fish and no diary products. Dieting is an issue with wrestlers, and Al admits his concerns about it too. His wrestler chef will address Al's issues during their year long project. Stay tuned here for How-To-Do Book on Preventing Heart Attacks and movie script updates. Also, Al Bruhn will be practicing his learned wrestling skills with 20-year old college athlete and sports writer Justin Mazzarese. They too will be writing a book titled Wrestling with Life.

Al Bruhn, a distinguished retired teacher with a gold medal, is now a guest teacher with public school districts and loves it!

Al Bruhn reports that while enjoying the best family vacation on a boat in Mission Bay, San Diego, California August 1, 2003, little did I realize that I was about to have a heart attack and not know it until an annual physical August 15. Robust and sportsman at 57, I never had any indication that one of my arteries was subject to a blood clot. Thank God my other arteries are fine following a cardiocath and medical assistance from Danbury Hospital and associates at Cardiac Rehabilation Center, where I passed phase two at the end of April 2004, and now into an innovative national cardio/wrestling medical project to demonstrate how to strengthen the heart muscle to prevent another heart attack. As senior coach and wrestler with Western Connecticut Wrestling Teams, I am engaged in workout sessions with college athletes and young adults.

In other news, Danbury High School wrestler Justin Apted earned a special trophy for outstanding sportsmanship following an amateur wrestling match at Danbury's Sheraton Hotel major sporting event this past fall. Also, at the same multi-sports event, Al Bruhn earned an outstanding sportsmanship trophy for his martial arts submission grappling match.
