Connecticut Education Official Talks About Teacher Shortages And Suspected Child Molesters On USA TV Talk

(Danbury, Connecticut)...Thomas Murphy (left) told USA TV Talk Al Bruhn (right) during a live broadcast at Comcast Cablevision in this city March 19, 2002 that Connecticut is better off than other states in terms of getting teachers to replace classroom teachers slated to retire during the next few years. Thomas Murphy, a spokesperson for the Connecticut Department of Education, explained that there are critical shortages of teachers for upper grades, but that there are teachers available for the elementary schools. However, city schools are in greater demand for teachers than their counterpart schools in the towns, Thomas Murphy said. Furthermore, Thomas Murphy said there has to be a better way of keeping young and old teachers in the classrooms. First and second year teachers are leaving the teaching profession, and teachers are opting for early retirement which Thomas Murphy contends should be curtailed. He added that retired teachers should be brought back into the classroom where needed without penalty to their retirement paychecks. On another issue, Thomas Murphy praised the controversial Connecticut Mastery Test and its usefulness now. Nevertheless, Thomas Murphy said the CMT shouldn't be the sole course of teaching today.

On the issue of suspected child abuse, Thomas Murphy explained that anyone who attempts to cover-up a suspected child abuser could have his/her license revoked. Thomas Murphy said that Connecticut Prosecutors have issued a warning to all teaching staff both public and non-public of its legal obligation to report all suspected child abuse or face disciplinary action.

Students have until age 21 to report abuse cases including attempts by officials to pay off victim's parent(s) not to talk about incident(s). It's all to be considered political scandal!
