Ridgefield Submission Grapplers Team UPDATE

(Ridgefield, Connecticut)...17 year old Ridgefield High School student Stephen Crane instructed Al Bruhn on how to

approach a submission grappling match during May 5 training session at Bruhn Gym. Crane, a senior, and Bruhn,

a veteran amateur wrestler and coach, engaged in hand to hand combat and grappled on the mats with Bruhn

tapping out to Crane in many practice martial arts submission grappling matches.

Martial Arts student Stephen Crane told Bruhn to approach martial arts in a state of natural relaxation

and allow inner reactions to take control of one's opponent. Bruhn acknowledged that submission grappling

and amateur wrestling are two different one on one physical contact sports, and learned the importance of

how to face off his opponent and how to protect himself from being placed in a head lock and forced to tap out.

Crane convinced Bruhn to find time to meditate to erase one's mind of negative thoughts and to focus on pleasure

thoughts to enhance one's state of mind, that will lead to success in martial arts like submission grappling on the mat.

Bruhn admitted that Crane is a tough opponent, but believes that he can improve his physical conditioning and submission

grappling techniques, and possible win in future submission grappling matches.

"Both Stephen and I agree that we made progress during our workout session May 5, and that I am indebted

to Stephen's willingness, fortitude and personal strength and comradeship to help me achieve my goals on the mat," Bruhn said.

Stephen Crane, RHS senior Alex Ilmenev and Al Bruhn are scheduled in a three way bout at a grand martial arts event July 9

at Sheraton Hotel in Danbury, Connecticut that will be video taped for broadcast on Comcast TV 23.

The threesome plan to participate in out of state martial arts submission grappling tournaments in the future.

The Ridgefield Grapplers Team only consists of Ridgefield High School students now, but is open to high school students

in area towns. High School students lead the practice sessions according to the ground rules of the team.

Bruhn is the student appointed sole honorary adult supervisor.

Bruhn plans to give both RHS seniors unspecified college scholarships next month. Crane and Ilmenex

demonstrate outstanding student athletes and deserve to be rewarded according to Bruhn.

Next Ridgefield Grapplers Team practice session is scheduled for May 12 at 5pm in Bruhn Gym.
